Did you know that Golden Inca Berries, known as ‘gooseberrys' were one of the few non-native fruits available to early Australian settlers.
The Incan Goldenberry (Physalis peruviana) is native to South America but more commonly known as the Cape Gooseberry.
Fresh berries are bright yellow and very sweet when ripe and so beautiful in their lantern-like papery husks, that they're used in decorative gourmet dessert garnishes.
The health enhancing benefits have been recognized through the ages -- global explorers carried Goldenberry seeds on their travels to ensure a rapid growing, nutrient rich fresh fruit source upon finding land (eg. ‘poha' in Hawaiian).
Suggested Uses:
With the more-ish tangy taste, you'll love eating Goldenberrys straight out of the bag, or add to trail mix, yoghurt, muesli, lunch boxes, fruit cakes, muffin or cookie batter, make jam or pair with chocolate – YUM !
Nutritional Benefits:
Loads of beneficial nutrients make Goldenberrys the ideal super-satisfying, on-the-go snack. An excellent source of anti-oxidant Vitamins C, A(carotene), and P(bioflavonoids), they also contain B1, B2, B6, calcium, phosphorous, fibre, cleansing pectin, AND unusually for a fruit, protein!
Ingredients: Certified Organic 100% Goldenberries (Physalis peruviana).
1. What do Goldenberrys taste like?
The sweetness and texture of a raisin crossed with the zing of citrus zest.
2. Are they ‘raw'?
Technically no, as they are air-dried up to 60°C to comply with Australian Quarantine's very complicated regulations. The alternative is nuclear sterilization – and WE KNOW YOU DON'T WANT THAT!!
3. Are they certified organic?
Wahoo! Yes, our new Ecuadorian supplier is ACO CERTIFIED ORGANIC!
