How it works
Oriental Botanicals AllergE contains a blend of herbs known as Minor Bupleurum Combination, which has been used for around 3000 years in TCM, where it’s traditionally used to improve the body’s resistance to allergens. According to TCM philosophy, it works by tonifying Lung Qi, the form of life force energy (or Qi) that’s associated with the Lung organ-meridian system.
In Chinese medicine, key herbs in Minor Bupleurum Combination are traditionally used to relieve a variety of mild allergy symptoms, and some have additional benefits for digestive, skin or respiratory-related symptoms, as detailed below.
Bupleurum helps relieve mild food intolerance symptoms
Bupleurum is the chief or ‘emperor’ herb in Minor Bupleurum Combination. In TCM, it’s traditionally used to relieve mild food intolerance symptoms like digestive discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea and bloating.
Baical skullcap helps manage hayfever
Baical skullcap is another leading ingredient in Oriental Botanicals AllergE and Minor Bupleurum Combination. In TCM it’s traditionally used to help manage hayfever and relieve mild allergy symptoms, like sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes.
Like bupleurum, baical skullcap is also traditionally used to relieve digestive discomfort, bloating and other symptoms of mild food intolerance. Other traditional uses of baical skullcap in TCM include helping to relieve reduced appetite, relieving cough and helping clear yellow-coloured mucus from the chest, and calming the hot, itchy skin symptoms of mild eczema and hives.
Korean ginseng regulates immune system function
Allergies occur as a result of immune system dysfunction, and Korean ginseng has a regulating effect on the immune system. In TCM, it’s traditionally used to tonify Defensive Qi (a form of life force energy that regulates immune resistance) and to improve the body’s resistance to allergens by supporting Lung Qi, plus to relieve symptoms of mild eczema, hives and food intolerances.
Chinese licorice soothes cough and mild bronchial irritation
Chinese licorice is traditionally used in TCM to relieve cough, respiratory catarrh and mild bronchial irritation. In TCM its cough-soothing benefits are traditionally regarded as due to its expectorant properties and moistening effects on the lungs.
Pinellia relieves respiratory mucus
Like Chinese licorice, pinellia is traditionally used to soothe cough and relieve respiratory mucus in TCM. It’s traditionally regarded as being an expectorant that helps relieve cough by directing Qi in a downwards direction.
